  • Stay sharp!
    • Be aware of Gypsy contractors. These contractors may not have the victim’s best interest in mind. They are taking advantage of people who are in distress. Before you hire someone to do work on your house ask the following questions:
      • Where is your business located?
      • Are you insured? Can I please see your COI?
      • What is your experience?
    • If you are having problems with paying bills, contact your vendors. We have found that most of them want to work with you, communication is key.
    • Before donating funds to a GOFUNDME, make sure it is a person or organization that is in need. You do not want to give money to a scammer located in another country or state.
    • Do NOT have someone fill out FEMA or forms with personal information. You can call FEMA @ 800.621.3362 if you do not have access to internet
    • Freeze your credit with all 3 credit bureaus
      • The three major credit bureaus allow you to create an account to place a freeze on your credit and prevent unauthorized individuals from opening credit in your name… THIS CAN BE DONE WITH NO COST. All three of the bureaus will try to encourage you to sign up for their services, YOU DON’T NEED TO DO THAT, just choose the free option.
    • How you can HELP!
      • As a Rotarian, we are people of action. If you have been unaffected and are looking for ways to help, consider contributing to the Rotary Club of Asheville WNC Disaster Relief Fund. 100% of the proceeds will be distributed to organizations that are involved in humanitarian efforts as well as rebuilding our communities.
